In this anniversary year, the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascism, we would like to tell about one of the teachers of the Higher School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, a participant in a number of military events, who was a student of A.S. Makarenko and Professor M.N. Gernet.

Unfortunately, at present, the name of the professor, quartermaster of the 3rd rank of reserve [1] Vasily Isidorovich Kufaev is undeservedly forgotten in the domestic historiography of law [2], so we made a modest attempt to tell

about the documents of three federal archives telling about his military path during the First World War and the Civil War.

The Russian State Military Historical Archive has a track record of infantry ensign Vasily Isidorovich Kufaev, compiled on October 28, 1916 [3].

In the file of servicemen of the Red Army reserve, stored in the Russian State Military Archive, we found an account card [4], which gives information about the further service of Vasily Kufaev in railway connections and units of the Red Army from 1920 to 1921 as the head of the team of the Saratov railway division and assistant head of the narrow gauge railway station in Moscow.

The fund of the People's Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR [5] of the State Archives of the Russian Federation contains registration cards and other materials about the service (work) of Vasily Isidorovich Kufaev in the 1920s.

Biography V.I. Kufaev awaits further study.
