Can we eliminate the gap between mathematics and science?

The paper considers an acute problem for modern school education related to the noticeable lag in mathematics from the needs of the entire cycle of natural sciences. It is most acutely manifested in the pair "physics" and "mathematics". And this is paradoxical, because in its early stages of development, mathematics used the same method of cognition as physics: experiment.

Examples of specific situations of mathematics "lagging behind" the needs of natural science are given, the causes of this process are analyzed and detailed, related, for example, to the discontinuity of forward and reverse operations. Simple and obvious ways to eliminate these causes are proposed.
