The work is based on the materials of a questionnaire survey of postgraduates and students in Voronezh universities. The results of the students studies have already been published in [1], [2] and others. The purpose of this work is to compare the ideas of postgraduates and students about the future, the role of science and high technologies in the development of our country, as well as their ideas about their own role in the future. Research problem: 1) Identification of respondents 'preferences when choosing the field of future work; 2) Analysis of students 'and postgraduates' ideas about what is needed primarily for Russia in the field of technology and what projects they consider to be a priority; 3) Identification of ideas about who (which groups) determine the future development of Russia. It seemed natural to us that most graduate students would want to work in science. However, less than 50% of postgraduate students (43.2% and 48.6%, respectively) would like to engage in science or teaching in the future, although, of course, this desire is significantly lower among students. Students are more attracted to work in trade, finance and management, while postgraduates value jobs in high technology more. They understand the role of IT better than students. Graduate students demonstrated skepticism about the development of nanotechnology, space exploration, and the fight against global warming. However, robotics, the development of new drugs, rural gasification, or the construction of high-speed highways are valued more by graduate students than by students. Relatively speaking, graduate students are "closer to the ground". They are more committed to liberal values. They consider the observance of human rights to be the most important achievement in the United States. Their views should be taken into account by the authorities. An important result is the fact that graduate students, people who are already involved in science and in the scientific environment personally, have a very low (and lower than students) assessment of the importance of science for the future development of Russia. In general, postgraduate students showed themselves to be a more mature and more purposeful group of young people in comparison with students. In our opinion, they are a good potential reserve in the transition to advanced digital technologies, and an increase in the number of postgraduates will be useful for the development of the economy.
